Polished Neolithic Stone Hand Axe 6+1/4 Long Beautiful Cutting Edge
For the Selective Readers……… PLEASE take time to read all description below. This is an impressive Neolithic polished stone hand axe with a near perfect cutting edge…. It really is a nice example. The rest of the hand axe is formed for the person using the axe head in my opinion… Its not symmetrical down both sides and its got some chunks not fully polished out… These in MY opinion have been knocked off on purpose and left fairly rough to get a good grip on the hand axe depending which end you are using and when using a different end you hold it in the same hand of course…. So it has to fit nice in your hand. It does have a later KNOCKED OFF chunk thats been done in antiquity near the narrow end on one side… You can see its a cleaner break in the stone than the rest of the chunks missing…. Anyone into rocks and splitting chunks off them will know what I mean… Old knocks, chips and bruises get a patina of the period of time.. And fresh knocks look like new knocks.. This knock chip could have been done a 1000 years ago of course.. But its a fresh knock compared to the rest of the axe head. It is a nice colour too… Rather like Lake District type stone.. Heavy greeny black fleck grey sort of colour. It has some black lines within the rock as well as the black spotting. It is well shaped and has been polished smooth on all the parts that are the same level – high areas and the workmanship is really good. It fits in my RIGHT hand just grand both ways… And if I was left handed it wouldnt feel as comfortable. Looking at the axe from 4 parts.. The black line you see on the axe is striation in the rock type.. It is NOT damage… Its not been broken and glued… Its the make up of the stone its been made from.. As well as these straightish lines some are wobbly as well on the other side and edge they can be seen as well it has black spots within the rock as well. It is 6 and a 1/4 inch long x 2 and 3/4 inch wide x 1 and a 1/2 inch deepest part and it weighs approx…..
